Check out Atomic Frontier! cscodes.info - start with the video on a country-sized telescope cscodes.info/port/2ZGMlYuwlqR8uZc/video.html or the world's deepest scuba dive cscodes.info/port/2W1rhmvAro6mlmg/video.html • Turns out that trying to precisely detect fire from space is more difficult than "point a camera at it".

Making this documentary was a blast, although to be honest with you, halfway up the tree I was definitely having second thoughts about being able to make it to the top. Thanks, Tom, for this amazing opportunity!

This is an interesting doco but I don’t remember fire tracking be that much of a problem problem with 2020 bushfires, problem was limited staff and budget needed for fire control, less back-burning done before Fire season, water miss management and the ever worsening climate

these could be covered by the use of drone and helicopters why would any one fork out billions of dollars when I could use the money buying more aircraft and fire appliances doesn't really make a whole load of sense e.g I can a 747 aircraft for 26.3 million that's puts fires out, people need to start thinking about putting out fires as fast as possible.
Před 3 měsíciMatt Donnelly
@Oi Meu Chapa ok so people ring 000 and you report a fire. That's how the system works we have planes already fly every day we have 9 plane that fly different areas already in Perth everything is tracked, through people on the ground and helicopter in the sky, all the water bombers do is suppress the fire for ground crews to put the fire out, so why do we need satellites when we could buy more fire fightering equipment to put the fire out
Před 2 měsíciOi Meu Chapa
But how would you know where the fire is located at, you need to put the fire out before it spreads

The way that I remember fighting those fires in my own backyard, and then being able to see such high quality imagery of what everyone else would have seen at the time. It was just smoke, and there was no power, so we had absolutely no idea how much had burnt or how close the fires were unless they were at you back door. I mean Wow, that’s some great quality footage, like better than the photos I could take because I couldn’t even see 2 meters infront of me Lmao

Instead of just checking for a red channel as well as flickering artifacts, could you use infrared imaging? Although I assume the issues related with that would include increase in costs and the cold of space masking off any radiated heat that small.

The host has the very typical WA accent. It sounds like a curious mix of SE England and general Australian. I have the same accent. It's because Perth and WA has the highest rate of British migrants, and so many of us here have dual nationality because our mum or dad (or both) are from the UK.

Cube satellites are by far the worst idea ever. Instead of putting more junk that later generations either have to dodge or cleanup into orbit if they don't burn up as planned, why don't they simply put decent IR cameras on the towers and get the same sort of coverage for less?
Před 3 měsíciOi Meu Chapa
Your comment makes absolutely no sense, its way cheaper to have like 4 cubesats with good ir sensors, then a couple hundred IR cameras on trees with limited coverage, the indians and the chad ISRO have gotten launch costs so low that its way cheaper, and no they wont be junk in orbit, cube sats deorbit quite quickly because of their low orbits, and even then NASA developed a steam propulsion system for cubesats, federal university of santa catarina in brazil is developing a ethanol micro thruster for cubesats, they will very soon replace most satelites.
